About TheWebCal
Empowering everyone to grow their own food—one seed at a time
Our Story
TheWebCal was built by a Canadian gardener who got tired of using American tools that didn't account for Canadian frost dates, shorter growing seasons, or the unique challenges of growing food from BC to Newfoundland. The frustration of searching "when to plant tomatoes" and getting results calibrated for Georgia or California — when you're gardening in Calgary with a 120-day season — was the spark that started this project.
We're gardeners, food enthusiasts, and believers in the simple joy of watching something you planted grow into a meal on your table. There's nothing quite like the excitement of harvesting your first tomato, pulling fresh carrots from the soil, or cutting herbs you grew yourself for dinner.
In a world where food security concerns are growing, we realized something important: the ability to grow your own food has never been more valuable. But for many people, gardening feels overwhelming, complicated, or reserved for those with years of experience and a "green thumb."
That's why we created TheWebCal — calculators and guides built specifically for the Canadian climate, by someone who actually gardens in it.
Our Mission
To make gardening simple, accessible, and exciting for everyone—whether you're a complete beginner planting your first seed, a curious teenager discovering the magic of growing food, or an experienced gardener looking to optimize your harvest.
We believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy, homegrown food. And we believe that with the right tools and guidance, anyone can experience the joy and satisfaction of growing their own vegetables.

🇨🇦 Canadian Gardeners

Why We Built This
Gardening shouldn't be gatekept by complicated jargon, expensive consultations, or years of trial and error. It should be as simple as:
- "How much space do I need for 6 tomato plants?" — Use our spacing calculator.
- "When should I start seeds indoors?" — Check your frost dates.
- "How much soil do I need for my raised bed?" — Our soil calculator tells you instantly.
- "When will my vegetables be ready to harvest?" — Use our harvest calculator.
We saw a gap between the complexity of traditional gardening resources and what beginners actually need: simple, accurate, easy-to-use tools that give you answers in seconds. So we built them.
